Men of faith power of proverbs
John Lejay, a former Coach and player over the course of 30 years has demonstrated multiple methods of hill training to develop young aspiring athletes. Coach Lejay believes his calling was to help develop young men and women to reach their athletic goals. While growing up in South Central CA, his Coach offered his knowledge and showed him how to run hills for endurance, strength and speed. Since then, Coach Lejay has established his own program of hill training which includes a combination of skill-building techniques to develop an elite athlete. Over the years, Coach Lejay understood the importance of implementing messages of faith from the book of Proverbs. By mentoring young athletes to use faith through “proverbs”, it has been a great tool for athletes to make good decisions and develop an ambitious work ethic. In addition, Coach Lejay also helps aspiring athletes create and develop their own brand. Over time, with preparation and faith, resources will help athletes reach their full potential. These are examples used within Coach Lejay’s program.
"The hill for me is not just another work out. I looked at it as another obstacle in life. The hill is never the same when you run it; every time it's something different. Yeah it's the same hill, but you have to mentally plan your attack, to defeat it. Mentally you have to prepare yourself for a fight, otherwise you will get defeated. It challenges you; and helps you determine who you are. Once you establish that, then it becomes a workout. Your mind body and spirit becomes one, and now you control your own destiny. One thing I tell my son, daughter, and the players I coach, "No One Can Stop You, But You." Meaning if you are in tune with yourself, and understand spiritually who you are, and what you are capable of, you can't be stopped. In turn, I got faster, stronger, quicker, because every workout is essentially modified for a different result. The hill prepares you for life; but you don't realize it, until you're an adult. That's what the hill did for me".

"Physically, it strengthens my body as a whole. It fine turns every muscle in my mind/body. Personally it makes me feel like I can run through anything! Mentally, it strengthens my mind/brain. If I can conquer the mountain in my mind I can conquer many things in life. The hill trains my mind how to handle. My faith in God gets me through the ups & downs not only on that mountain but in life! For all you newbies training on the mountain is a way of life, I adversity. When running the mountain you’re running up and down many hills and in life you deal with ups and downs. No matter what happens I attack what's In front of me head on. Spiritually, through who strengthens me, blessing me with courage & focus to who will not place anything that I can't handler’s a way to free yourself from all your troubles & prepare yourself for your next move!"

TRAINING LEVELS
FOUNDATION
This is our foundation training hill,” what are you willing to do to get better” Our athletes use this hill to get in shape. It lays down four quarters of development while running this hill, it will help you with these things: endurance, mental toughness, strength, faith and trust, at different times in your running experience on this hill they are needed to finish this run “Foundation is everything”.
GO CATCH YOUR DREAM
When you want to catch your dream you can’t stop, so with this hill training our athletes run a trail that is two miles up on a grade and two miles back down that grade and you are timed. This run is about focus, strength, will, faith, and speed how many times you are going to stop while trying to “Go catch your dream”.
READY TO PLAY
We ask our athletes to run a 200 meter hill on a grade ten times at a 100%. There is a turnaround time that is set for different sport which helps with no huddle, with this type of hill training the speed and tempo; it allows our athletes to play well in today fast pace games. This lets the athlete know if he is “Ready to play”.

Coach, Mentor Lyndon Cleghorne
While coaching football at the high school and pop warner levels for many years, I had the opportunity to meet Coach John Lejay to discuss how he trained guys on the hill. His teachings reminded me of how I used certain hill training methods as an advantage for martial arts. Sparring and running at Prospect Park in Brooklyn it was the most difficult outdoor training I went through in my life. Once I realized the importance of hill training, I focused on training my sons and other athletes to run the hill for skill development. Training and mentoring kids from the 7th grade to the college level has truly been a blessing. The joy of watching young athletes excel made me realize that this was my calling. Coach Lejay and I created a calendar of proverbs that the athletes can read every day for wisdom, knowledge and understanding. We ask the athletes to write down what they’ve done over the course of a year so they can see the body of work they’ve accomplished. I believe that with skill development, faith and the power of proverbs, the sky is the limit for any athlete.
